Woman arrested for DWI, heroin possession, after driving with kids in backseat
A plain clothes Manchester Police Detective first noticed the woman briefly “passed out” at the wheel of a Dodge Magnum at 11:05 p.m. on May 28, waking up long after the light turned green. She had two 3-year-olds in the backseat of her car.
MANCHESTER, NH — Kristin Fosher-Laliberte, 43 of Manchester, was arrested May 28 after police determined she was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol with two young kids in the backseat.
A plain clothes Manchester Police Detective assigned to the Special Enforcement Division observed a woman briefly “passed out” at the wheel of a Dodge Magnum at 11:05 p.m. on May 28. The detective first observed her as she waited at the traffic light on Lake Avenue and Elm Street. He noted the woman woke up long after her traffic light turned green before she continued driving west on Lake Avenue on to Granite Street.
The detective also observed the operator narrowly escape an accident before turning on to Canal Street. He radioed for a marked patrol unit as he followed her north on Canal Street toward the Amoskeag Rotary. The operator also struck a curb with her rear tire before she proceeded west across the Amoskeag Rotary.
Officer Kyle Daly, of the Patrol Division caught up to the detective and the suspect vehicle on Eddy Road. Officer Daly followed the vehicle past the Eddy Road Shell Station and noticed her weave over the double yellow line as she continued southerly on Eddy Road. He activated his emergency lights and stopped her near McGregor Square.
Fosher-Laliberte pulled over and Officer Daly immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol while speaking with her. He also observed two children, (both 3 years of age) in the back seat of the vehicle. Police had not immediately determined what relationship if any Fosher-Laliberte had with the two children.
Fosher-Laliberte was placed into custody after failing a field sobriety test.
A search incident prior to arrest revealed .7 grams of heroin. The two children were not harmed during the incident and placed in proper care. Fosher-Laliberte was charged with possession of a controlled drug (heroin); aggravated driving while intoxicated (because the children were under 16-years of age); and endangering the welfare of a child (for purposely violating her duty of care for children under 18-years of age). She appeared in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on May 29.
