Wihby turns in school board resignation to Mayor Gatsas
After a scandalous week for the Manchester School Board member, David Wihby has resigned his seat.
MANCHESTER, NH – David Wihby officially resigned his post as a Manchester School Board member Wednesday.
School District spokesperson Andrea Alley confirmed that Wihby handed in his resignation to Mayor Ted Gatsas on April 8, who in turn forwarded the resignation to School Superintendent Dr. Debra Livingston.
“Dr. Livingston informed the board members this afternoon,” Alley said. “We aren’t sure what the process next will be, in terms of replacing him,” she said.
Wihby was arrested April 3 in Nashua, caught in a prostitution sting that originated with an online ad set up by police. Wihby was arrested at a Nashua hotel. A few hours after he was released from police custody, Wihby was found unconscious in his bedroom, apparently after taking an overdose of pills. Gatsas, a longtime friend of Wihby’s, had gone to Wihby’s home to check on him after getting the news about his arrest and found him unconscious.
Wihby immediately tendered his resignation to U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, after the arrest last seek. Wihby was serving as director of Ayotte’s New Hampshire offices.
