A police narrative of the event follows:
On February 21, 2016 at approximately 11 p.m., multiple officers arrived at 180 Notre Dame Avenue for a reported burglary in progress. The call indicated a resident of the multi-family home was actively fighting with an unknown man in the basement.
Officers located the resident Steven Gott, 43, and Scott in the basement.
Gott told police he was alerted to the intruder after he noticed the basement light on. He checked the basement minutes before police arrived where he saw Scott hiding behind the boiler system holding a flashlight and a screwdriver. Gott called 911, and then he got into a physical altercation with Scott who allegedly attempted to flee the basement. Gott tackled him to prevent him from fleeing before police arrived. Police said the two men were actively engaged in a wrestling match when they arrived to the residence.
Police determined Scott had no legitimate purpose to be inside the dwelling, so he was charged with burglary. Scott will appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on February 22, 2016.
