Three charged with robbing homeless man of possessions, threatening to kill him

MANCHESTER, NH – A homeless man was the victim of a robbery at 1:10 a.m. on April 2, 2016 while sleeping inside of his temporary shelter, located off of Allard Drive. The victim, Alan Martin, 41, was allegedly sleeping in his tent when a group of individuals accosted him, and threatening to kill him if he reported the alleged crime, police said.

Martin told police two males and one female had threatened him and forced him to exit the tent. One of the men, later identified as Marcus Hall, 31, of Manchester allegedly threatened to kill Martin if he contacted the police. Hall made the threats while removing items from Martin’s tent. Martin did not allege an assault during the incident.

Martin and his friends left shortly after he removed a Nike backpack containing Martin’s cell phone and assorted items. Officer Matthew O’Connor located three subjects in front of the Amory Street Domino’s several minutes after the reported robbery. Hall was in possession of the stolen Nike bag and cell phone.

Hall was charged with robbery and placed on a 72-hour hold for a probation/parole violation. He was arraigned on April 4, 2016.

Also arrested: Edward Mello, 45, and Chandel Vandenburg, 29, both of Manchester, charged with criminal liability to robbery.

Mello was released on $500 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on May 5, 2016. Vandenburg was released on $1,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on May 6, 2016.
