MANCHESTER, NH – A preliminary report on the city’s “Hot Spot Policing Initiative” suggests that police are making a difference in reducing crime in pockets around the city where crimes are most often committed.
Public Information Officer, Lt. Brian O’Keefe, said the report reflects only preliminary numbers, and that a final report is expected sometime in February. However, taking a look at the preliminary numbers as a new year gets underway is a helpful gauge in moving forward, given the heightened public interest in this topic.
In raw numbers, some crimes show an upward trend in 2014 compared to the five-year weighted average — for example 237 robberies were reported last year compared to the five-year average of 222.8 — burglary and arson are down.
Calls for service to police were up 4 percent in 2014, with 14,642 more calls made (or about 40 additional calls per day) compared to 2013.
