Stormy Weather Watch: Thunderstorm and flash-flood warnings in effect
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning that remains in effect until 8:45 a.m. for our general area, followed by a flash flood watch, which goes into effect at noon.
MANCHESTER, NH – The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning that remains in effect until 8:45 a.m. for our general area, followed by a flash flood watch, which goes into effect at noon.
A severe thunderstorm cell was being tracked Tuesday morning in the area of Bradford, about 10 miles west of Henniker, moving at 30 mph.
Expect gusts of wind in excess of 60 mph and quarter-sized hail, which could damage vehicles.
A flash flood warning was also in effect for portions of southwest Maine and New Hampshire, including the following areas, in southwest Maine, Coastal York and Interior York. In New Hampshire, Cheshire, Coastal Rockingham, Eastern Hillsborough, Interior Rockingham, Merrimack, Strafford, and Western And Central Hillsborough.
Flood watch remains in effect starting at 12 p.m. Expect multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall rates. Despite recent dry weather heavy rainfall rates will increase the threat of flash flooding, particularly in areas of poor drainage.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
