Stormy weather – and possible flooding – in the forecast for Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH – If your name is Noah and you have an ark handy, you may want to start rounding up the animals.
The National Weather Service says we’re in for some much-needed rain. That’s the positive spin. What they are actually saying is “flood watch,” which means more than our fair share of rain is coming.
If we’re playing the blame game, it’s all due to an offshore high pressure system complicated by a slow-moving cold front which will bring us unseasonably warm and moist air. Tuesday’s showers will evolve into persistent rain, which prompts the “flood watch” warning – 3-4 inches of rain by Wednesday night.
There may be a break in the rain action Thursday.
But if you are a bride hoping for a weekend wedding day weather reprieve, well, we wish you luck, and suggest the wedding party bring along some boots and umbrellas. More heavy rain and potential localized flooding is on the map for the weekend and early next, as well.
For that, you can blame the wildcard named by the The Weather Channel as Tropical Storm Joaquin, currently churning off the Atlantic coast.
Don’t despair: Weather Underground says sunny days are ahead – but not until sometime next week, probably Oct. 7.
UPDATED Sept. 30 from the National Weather Service:
* A Flood WATCH remains in effect for the rest of the State through Thursday morning.
* Radar indicated heavy rain across much of NH. Rainfall of 3-4” has fallen with another 1-2” possible. Small streams and brooks will likely exceed bankful later this morning. In addition poor drainage flooding in urban areas will cause problems with travel.
* A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
