SNHU earns honors in field hockey and cross country

It’s September 10, and here are a few recent highlights from the Southern New Hampshire University Athletics program.

Men’s Golf

The Penmen finished second in the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational on Monday with a team score of 591, three strokes behind St. Thomas Aquinas College. Freshman Jared Mscisz (Danvers, Mass.) led the way with an even-par 72 at Keene Country Club, but he and his teammates could not carry over their lead after the first round despite only adding stoke in their second-round performance.

SNHU returns to the links on Sept. 23 and 24 when it hosts the Penmen Fall Invitational at Canterbury Woods Country Club in Canterbury, N.H.

Men’s Cross Country

SNHU runners took the top six positions and eight of the top nine at the Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College on Saturday.

The race was won by senior Michael Moreno (Houston, Texas) with a time of 26:41.63, followed closely by junior teammates Cedric Joceyln (Nyack, N.Y.) and Micah Hewitson (New Market, Md.)

Next up is the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Field Hockey

Senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) was named as the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Van der Doorn has nine points in two games last week, including  four goals against Limestone College and Converse College.

On Sunday, she also took sole possession of the program’s all-time goal scoring record (25) and extended her lead as SNHU’s all-time points leader (63).

The Penmen (1-1) continue non-conference play on Wednesday (September 11) when they host Northeast-10 foe Saint Michael’s College on Larkin Field at 6 p.m.
