MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester firefighters responded to a multi-vehicle crash after an electric vehicle lost control in a grocery store parking lot, crashing into several parked cars.

Manchester Police, Fire, and AMR ambulance responded to a report of a vehicle rolled over Tuesday at Market Basket at 460 Elm Street at about 9:20 a.m.

A Manchester Police officer working a detail in the area was able to call in the crash via police radio and get additional emergency personnel on scene quickly.

Upon arrival officers located several vehicles that were damaged as a result on this crash.  The crash was caused by a 2024 electric Toyota Highlander that entered the Market Basket parking lot from Auburn Street and drove at a high rate of speed before crashing into five parked vehicles and causing significant property damage.

The driver of the Toyota, a 50 year-old female from Massachusetts,  reported mechanical failure causing the vehicle to accelerate out of control.  The damage to the Toyota Highlander was a total loss with several other vehicles sustaining significant damage.

Police said one one of the parked vehicles was occupied by a juvenile however no injuries were reported.   While this crash caused a lot of property damage we are grateful to learn that no significant injuries resulted from this incident.

The driver of the electric vehicle was initially trapped until bystanders worked to get her out of the vehicle.  Joshua Richey of Manchester, who said he pulled the woman from the vehicle after it crashed, said the woman told him that her brake wouldn’t function and she lost control.

Firefighters at the scene evaluated a man who was with a baby in a car seat for injuries.

The driver of the car that lost control was transported to a local hospital.

Firefighters remained at the scene as the electric vehicle was uprighted and the heavily damaged vehicles were removed. Firefighters evaluated the batteries of the electric vehicle to determine they were not leaking or damaged in the crash, which can cause extreme fire danger.

The factors of this crash are under investigation by the Manchester Police Department.  If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the Manchester Police Department at 603-668-8711.
