Science on Tap returns Oct. 1 for 7th season: Urban Backyard Farming
Science on Tap events are informal discussions with local scientists and experts on a particular topic. Science on Tap discussions are held at Stark Brewing Co. in Bo’s Lounge and function room at 500 Commercial St., Manchester, on the first Tuesday of each month from October through June.
MANCHESTER, NH – The SEE Science Center’s adult science discussion series, Science on Tap will begin its 7th season on October 1. Science on Tap events are informal discussions with local scientists and experts on a particular topic. Science on Tap discussions are held at Stark Brewing Co. in Bo’s Lounge and function room at 500 Commercial St., Manchester, on the first Tuesday of each month from October through June. Doors open at 5 p.m., the discussion begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but advanced sign-up is available using Eventbrite. Attendees are welcome to order from the food and beverage menu during the event.
On October 1 the focus will be on the efforts and challenges with producing food in an urban environment. Many people are trying to reconnect with what was commonplace a few generations ago – farming for one’s own subsistence. The public is invited to discuss the challenges and benefits of farming in a modern urban yard, including growing vegetables and raising chickens. Panelists include Elaina Enzien Dairy, Livestock & Forage Crops Field Specialist, UNH Cooperative Extension and Emma Erler, Education Center Program Coordinator, UNH Cooperative Extension.
Science on Tap is a program of the SEE Science Center in partnership with UNH Manchester & Stark Brewing Co. Upcoming topics will include the Future of Nuclear Energy on November 5 and Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics on December 3.
The SEE Science Center is a hands-on science discovery center located at 200 Bedford Street, Manchester, NH 03101. SEE is open to the public on 7 days a week.
