Saint Anselm finds bright spot in late Budrewicz goal

It’s September 29, 2019. Here are a few recent updates from Saint Anselm College sports.

Women’s Soccer

The Hawks continue to struggle with Northeast-10 Conference foes, falling to 1-1-2 after a 3-3 draw against LeMoyne College on Saturday.

Saint Anselm ended the contest with a 17-13 shot advantage against LeMoyne, which came into the day with only one non-loss in six previous games this season.

The Hawks’ goals came from junior Bailey Conti (Walpole, Mass.), senior Roshelle Morrison (Limerick, Maine) and freshman Aly Fish (South Glens Falls, N.Y.).

Saint Anselm (4-1-3, 1-1-2) now welcomes the Purple Knights from Saint Michael’s College on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.

Men’s Soccer

Sophomore Michael Budrewicz (Uccle, Belgium) provided the game-winner on Saturday, giving the Hawks a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday.

Thanks to a timely through ball from senior Nick Heckt (South Windsor, Conn.), Budrewicz had a one-on-one for that deciding shot in the 97^th minute, his fourth goal of the year.

Saint Anselm also received goals from junio Josh Polakiewicz (Middleton, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.).

The Hawks (5-2-0, 1-2-0) begin a two-game road trip starting on Tuesday, Oct. 1 as they travel to Saint Michael’s for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.

Football

A trip to Pleasantville, N.Y. turned out to be rather unpleasant for the Hawks, who fell 42-21 to Pace University on Saturday.

Senior Eric Fairweather (Londonderry, N.H.) made his first start of the season after coming in on the bench last week, but provided Pace with four interceptions that continually stifled the Hawks’ momentum.

Fairweather’s only touchdown pass went to junior Charles Elliott (Memphis, Tenn.), snapping a string of five unanswered Pace touchdowns.

Senior Nicholas Fiorello (Westford, Mass.) and Fairweather also contributed touchdowns on the ground in the loss.

The Hawks (0-4) will seek their first win of 2019 at Tiffin University in Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 5.
