Road work scheduled for I-293 southbound river bridge on March 18

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announced work will begin Monday, March 18, 2019 on the Interstate 293 southbound bridge over the Merrimack River in Bedford and Manchester. The three lanes over the bridge will be reduced to two lanes with the installation of concrete barrier between the work zone and the traveling public. This two lane configuration is expected to last until Fall 2019.

This work is scheduled to be done between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will require the use of lane closures. The transition to two lanes is expected to take two days to complete the traffic shift; however addition days may be required due to weather conditions. Smart Work Zone (SWZ) message boards will be used to notify the traveling public of the upcoming work and current delays. During operations, the SWZ devices will be used to notify motorists on the F.E. Everett Turnpike and NH Route 101.

This project consists of bridge preservation work on the I-293 northbound and southbound bridges over the Merrimack River and PanAm Railroad in the Town of Bedford and the City of Manchester. The work includes bridge deck repairs, pier rehabilitation, replacement of modular expansion joints, CCTV foundation and pole, and a Smart Work Zone (SWZ) to inform the traveling public.
