Results of recent state and local police sobriety checkpoints

A total of 306 drivers were screened during two recent police sobriety checkpoints.

MANCHESTER, NH –Two recent sobriety checkpoints that included 306 total stops resulted in two arrests, by NH State Police for drug possession.

On April 22 Manchester Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint at the west end of Bridge Street that resulted in 114 stops, 1 summons issued, and no arrests.

On May 21 the New Hampshire State Police/Troop D conducted a Safety and Sobriety Checkpoint at the intersection of I-89, Route 3A and Hall Street in Bow. State Troopers, with the assistance of NH Liquor Enforcement, screened 192 vehicles, which resulted in 2 possession of drug arrests (1 felony).

New Hampshire is one of 38 states where sobriety checkpoints are conducted. In 12 states, sobriety checkpoints are not conducted, according to GHSA. Some states prohibit them by state law or Constitution (or interpretation of state law or Constitution). Texas prohibits them based on the its interpretation of the U.S. Constitution.
