Cab driver found dead in cab, possible drug overdose

MANCHESTER, NH – A cab driver was found slumped over the wheel of his cab Saturday morning at a local gas station, dead, police say, possibly from a drug overdose.

At about 10:40 a.m. on June 6 police were called to the Shell Station, 245 Eddy Road, where they were met by an ambulance crew from AMR ambulance who advised police that the driver, a 33-year-old male from Manchester, was deceased in the driver’s seat of a 2006 Town and Country taxi cab, owned by Red Sea Transportation, which operates out of Manchester as Red Sea Taxi.

The medical examiner arrived on the scene as well and is still investigating the cause of death, however drugs and/or alcohol have not been ruled out, police said.

According to a source, who asked not to be identified, the driver had worked for Red Sea Taxi for only about five days, was last heard from at about 3 a.m. He was due to pick up another fare at 4 a.m. in Litchfield, but never showed up.

Attempts to locate the driver by phone were fruitless, and the cab was reported missing at about 10:30 a.m.

Company policy for Red Sea Taxi, which has been operating since October of 2014, is to require drivers to get a drug test in addition to the random drug testing done by remote labs that the city conducts.
