MANCHESTER, NH — A city man fired a shotgun at his mother, hitting her in the arm, nearly severing it, according to court documents.
Francisco Garcia, 33, of 341 Central St., was arraigned Friday in 9th Circuit – Manchester District Court on two counts of attempted murder, and one charge each of first-degree assault and reckless conduct. He was ordered held without bail with a probable cause hearing set for Jan. 13.
Kathy Richard, who resides in the first-floor apartment at 341 Central St., told police just before she was wheeled into the operating room at the Elliot Hospital that Garcia is her son and that he shot her during an argument over his 4-year-old daughter.
Garcia also is accused of firing the shotgun a second time at Ferdinand Garcia, 35, who lives in the upstairs apartment with Richard’s daughter, according to court records.
Garcia allegedly fled the scene but turned himself into police about a half-hour later. He declined to be interviewed.
Ferdinand Garcia, who called 911, told police he heard screaming coming from downstairs about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. He opened his apartment door, looked down the stairwell and saw Richard with her arm “dangling off” and bleeding severely. Francisco, he said, was standing in the doorway holding a shotgun
“You guys aren’t my real family!” Francisco yelled. According to Ferdinand, Garcia then fired the shotgun at him. Ferdinand, who wasn’t hit, fled back into his apartment and retrieved his infant child. Ferdinand told police he heard Francisco leave the building through a rear door. Ferdinand then ran out the front door to his neighbor’s and called 911.
He confirmed that Garcia is Richard’s son. He said he does not speak regularly with him and told police Garcia as a methamphetamine user who is psychotic when under the influence of drugs. While court documents list Francisco Garcia’s address as 341 Central St., Ferdinand said he does not live there.
Garcia is facing other charges as well. He was arrested on a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge, the trial for which is scheduled for March in district court.
He also is under indictment in Hillsborough County Superior Court North on two separate felony charges of being in possession of controlled drugs – fentanyl and crack cocaine.
