Pig will be euthanized after attacking Townsend couple
Jose Hernandez, 50, was seriously injured after being attacked by a 250-pound pig on his farm at 188 Fitchburg Road on Tuesday. Today his condition was upgraded to stable and he is expected to survive.


TOWNSEND, MA — Jose Hernandez, 50, was seriously injured after being attacked by a 250-pound pig on his farm at 188 Fitchburg Road on Tuesday. Today his condition was upgraded to stable and he is expected to survive. His wife, Shannon Hernandez, 38, was also attacked by the pig, named Boss. She was treated and released from the hospital.
An investigation in to the incident was conducted by the Townsend Police Department and Animal Control Warden in conjunction with the Animal Rescue League, the Massachusetts State Veterinarian, a local veterinarian and the Massachusetts State Animal Inspector . After conferring with the owners of the pig, the decision has been made to euthanize the animal and conduct a test for rabies. The rabies test is being performed out of an abundance of caution.
