MANCHESTER, N.H. – In a battle of two top-ten field hockey programs, it was third-ranked Saint Anselm College who earned for a win and two key points in the Queen City Cup standings.

Saint Anselm defeated Southern New Hampshire University 2-0 on Tuesday in what was the eighth straight shutout win for the Hawks.

Sophomore Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) took the first goal 34 seconds into the second period, with senior Hannah Friend (North Easton, Mass.) doubling that lead in the fourth quarter.

The ninth-ranked Penmen doubled Saint Anselm’s shot total, but didn’t give Hawks goaltender Julia Hand too much to deal with, with only four shots on goal.

The Hawks now hold a 3-2 lead in the Queen City Cup standings, with this being the final field hockey contest between the two teams this season.

Both colleges next face off at the Northeast-10 Golf Championship this weekend.

Saint Anselm (8-0, 6-0 NE10) is now the last NCAA Division II field hockey team to not allow a goal this season. They’ll seek to keep that streak alive on Saturday, Oct. 5 (1 p.m.) against American International.

Southern New Hampshire (6-3, 4-2 NE10) will host Lindenwood University on Friday, October 4 (6 p.m.)
