Women’s Soccer
The 18th ranked Penmen couldn’t cope with four unanswered goals, falling 4-2 to Franklin Pierce College on Tuesday in Rindge.
SNHU got on the board thanks to a FPC own goal in the 28th minute, but they would not score again until junior Allyson Patterson (Seekonk, Mass.) added a goal in the 88th minute.
Patterson has now scored in three straight contests, with SNHU falling for the third time in their last three contests against the Ravens.
The Penmen (4-2-0, 2-2-0) return to action Saturday, Sept. 28 (4 p.m.) when they take on Southern Connecticut State University.
Men’s Soccer
Two first half goals were not enough, as the Penmen fell 3-2 to Assumption on Wednesday.
Graduate student João Brum (Ribeira Grande, Portugal) gave the Penmen a lead just before halftime, with freshman Nadjib Chibout (Lyon, France) evening things up just three minutes earlier.
Southern New Hampshire has now dropped three straight, with all three losses coming by one goal. This marks the first three-game losing streak for the Penmen since 2009.
The Penmen (2-3-1, 0-2-0) return to action Saturday, Sept. 28 (7 p.m.) when they battle Adelphi University.
Field Hockey
A promising contest loomed on Wednesday as two of the best field hockey teams in NCAA Division II hit the field in Manchester. They certainly did not disappoint.
Eighth ranked Southern New Hampshire defeated #7 Stonehill with a 2-1 overtime victory.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth quarter, senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) put the Penmen on the board with a penalty stroke goal , giving the Penmen a lead until freshman Olivia Cameron (Wakefield, Mass.) tied things up a minute later.
Freshman Lisa Hagel (Driehuis, The Netherlands) grabbed her ninth goal of the season just a minute into overtime to break the deadlock.
The Penmen (6-1, 4-0) are off to their best start in program history with a six-game winning streak, a streak they’ll seek to continue on Saturday, Sept. 28 (3 p.m.) against Adelphi.
