OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Southern New Hampshire University women’s basketball team couldn’t finish the final weekend of 2018 with a second victory, falling to the New York Institute of Technology on Sunday, 69-63.
SNHU grabbed an early lead thanks to a pair of three-pointers from junior Molly Terry (Shrewsbury, Mass.), but the Bears quickly recovered, ending the first quarter with a 20-17 lead. NYIT continued to build their lead over the second quarter, heading into the half with a 39-29 advantage, reduced by three from a buzzer-beating long-distance bucket from Terry.
A 9-5 SNHU run, highlighted by another Terry three, brought the Penmen within six points less than three minutes into the second half. However, the Penmen would not regain the lead, coming as close as one point with just over a minute to play.
Senior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) led the Penmen with 19 points, Terry finished with 14. NYIT sophomore Shalie Frierson (Troy, N.Y.) led all scorers with 23 points.
The Penmen return to action Sunday, Jan. 6 (1:30 p.m.) when they play host to Queens (N.Y.) College at the Stan Spirou Field House.
