NH State Police: Travel tips to avoid the Grim Reaper on Thanksgiving
It’s common knowledge that Thanksgiving is the busiest traveled holiday weekend of the year. Statistically, traffic-related fatalities increase around the holidays, and Thanksgiving is no exception.
CONCORD, NH — It’s common knowledge that Thanksgiving is the busiest traveled holiday weekend of the year. Statistically, traffic-related fatalities increase around the holidays, and Thanksgiving is no exception.
To date, this year New Hampshire has experienced 114 fatal crashes resulting in 127 fatalities. With so many motorists traveling to attend gatherings and get-togethers with family and friends, it’s important to reiterate and keep in mind, that most crashes during this holiday season are related to impairment. We want everyone to understand that saving lives on New Hampshire roadways is our top priority and we need everyone’s help. This is a great time to remind drivers to be responsible motorists.
Plan Ahead:
- Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;
- Before drinking, designate a sober driver and give that person your keys;
If you’re impaired, use a taxi or ride share, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely;
Don’t drive distracted:
- Put down the electronic devices;
When you’re driving; just drive. Keep both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road.
Slow Down:
- Your family and friends would much rather have you arrive late then not at all.
Wear Your Seatbelt:
- Please, always wear your seatbelt; there are no good excuses.
Please be safe and remember that whether you’ve had way too many or just one too many, it’s too many. Don’t get behind the wheel of a vehicle impaired; it’s not worth the risk!
