MPD mock-disaster training set for Oct. 8 at West High School
Don’t panic. West High School will be the center of a mock-disaster training drill on Oct. 8.
MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Police Department, in conjunction with two city hospitals and several city agencies, will host “live” training drill on Columbus Day (Oct. 8). Members of the Manchester Police Department’s SWAT Team coordinated the active training drill, which involves mass casualties, with the Manchester School District. The event will take place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday at West High School. The multi-agency drill includes the following:
- Manchester School District
- Manchester Transit Authority
- Manchester Fire Department
- Elliot Hospital
- Catholic Medical Center
- AMR Ambulance
The drill will cause road closures on Conant Street, Notre Dame Avenue and Hecker Street, but South Main Street will remain open during the live exercise, which will include role-players who will be treated for specific injuries at both Catholic Medical Center and the Elliot Hospital. The “casualties” will be transported by MTA buses to the two hospitals, where they will be treated according to their injuries.
Mock injuries (known as moulage) will be used on the actors to accurately depict specific injuries, so you may see the actors “suffering” from what appear to be serious injuries, but it is being used to simulate real injuries. The training drill, which includes multiple mass casualties, will benefit all agencies involved.
