Motorcyclist identified in fatal I-93 South Hooksett crash

HOOKSETT, NH – On Thursday, April 26, 2018, at approximately 2:05 p.m. New Hampshire State Police Communications received a call about a motorcycle operating erratically, southbound on Interstate 93 in the Concord area. The operator was seen traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. The motorcycle was then observed by a Troop D Trooper who was stationary on the Interstate.As the Trooper pulled out the motorcycle accelerated at a very high rate of speed. Shortly thereafter the decision was made to forego any attempt to catch up to the motorcycle for the safety of the rider and other motorists. The Trooper continued south with traffic and came upon the motorcycle, which had crashed within the entrance to the Interstate 93 southbound rest area. Troopers and bystanders attempted to render medical aid to Morales, who later succumbed to his injuries.The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit was requested to respond to the scene and investigate the collision.This collision involved a 2007 Yamaha YZFR1 Motorcycle. The initial investigation indicated that the motorcycle lost control while entering the rest area at a high rate of speed. This resulted in the motorcycle going off of the left side of the roadway, losing control, striking a light pole.Due to the collision, the entrance to the southbound rest area was closed for approximately 2½ hours. The New Hampshire State Police CAR Unit was assisted on scene by the Hooksett Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.At this time it appears that speed was a factor in the crash, however, all aspects remain under investigation.
