Monarchs dropped by Thunder, 6-1

GLENS FALLS, NY  – The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Adirondack Thunder, 6-1, Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Star Wars Night.

The Monarchs (18-11-0-1) look to bounce back against the Thunder (17-5-1-1) tomorrow afternoon, when they host Adirondack at the Jungle at 3 p.m.

Adirondack started the scoring early, breaking the ice at 3:08 of the first period when Mike Bergin scored his 1^st goal of the season.  Bergin took a slap shot from the left point through a screen and beat Monarchs goaltender, Cedrick Desjardins, through the five-hole.

The Thunder added to their lead when Greg Wolfe scored his 5^th goal of the season at 6:04 in the opening period.  Wolfe found the rebound from a Peter MacArthur shot and the forward buried the puck past Desjardins, top-shelf, for the 2-0 Adirondack lead.

Mitchell Heard put the Thunder up by three when he scored his 8^th goal of the season with only :37 seconds to play in the first period.  Heard weaved through four Monarchs beginning at his own blue line, and eventually beat Desjardins with a forehand-to-backhand move.

Adirondack added to their lead when Jeff Silengo notched his 5^th goal of the season in the second period.  Silengo took a pass out of the left corner and chipped a backhander over the glove of Desjardins, giving the Thunder a 4-0 lead at 14:54.

New Monarchs goaltender, Colin Stevens, was welcomed to the game abruptly to begin the third period, when Heard scored his second goal of the night at 1:20.  Heard plucked a shot out of the air right in front of Stevens, and stuffed home the puck on the first shot the goalie faced.

The Monarchs finally figured out Adirondack goaltender, Drew Fielding, when Stefan Legein sent home his 8^th goal of the season at 4:01 of the third period.  While on a 5-on-3 power play, Legein curled out of the left corner and fired a shot from the slot to break up the shutout.

Silengo added his second goal of the game, grabbing a rebound off of his own shot, beating Stevens high glove at 8:00 of the final frame, pushing the Thunder lead to 6-1

The Monarchs return to the ice Sunday afternoon (3 p.m.), when they host the Adirondack Thunder at the Jungle.  Make sure to bring a new or lightly used coat to donate to the “Teaming up for Warmth Coat Drive”, brought to you by the Monarchs and E&R Cleaners.
