MANCHESTER, NH – Members of the Manchester Police Department’s Vista Program (Volunteers in Service to America) have placed a collection box in the main lobby of Police Headquarters, 405 Valley St., as part of the VISTA special day of service MLK Day Projects, honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MPD’s VISTA volunteers started the collection to raise awareness of the homeless population and the challenges they face during the brisk winter weather.

The following items are requested:

  • hats
  • socks
  • gloves
  • toothbrushes
  • toothpaste

Items will be distributed to the homeless population residing in New Hampshire. The drop off box will be removed January 15, 2016, so please do not delay if you wish to donate.

New Hampshire statistics show there are 1,445 homeless people living in our state.

  • 667 people included families with children
  • 778 individuals did not have a permanent place to call home.
  • 18 percent of the homeless men and women indicated they were chronically homeless
  • 10 percent of the our homeless population includes Veterans of the Armed Forces.

If you wish to donate to this worthy cause, please purchase the aforementioned items and place them inside of the collection box. Your generosity can help make a positive difference in the life of a fellow Granite State resident.
