He went from IT to the bees. Former software engineer Michael Fairbrother chucked high tech to become a mead maker and in just five years has become a leading authority on the beverage made largely from fermented honey.
Mead is the oldest fermented beverage, according to Fairbrother, and predates written history.
Moonlight Meadery of Londonderry is one of the most competition-decorated meaderies in the country. Fairbrother is also President of the American Mead Makers Association, made up of 160 mead makers. His expertise has him flying to wine centers like California and Chile to speak on the subject of his passion-mead.
