Memorial student arrested following social media threat

MANCHESTER, NH – Police arrested a Memorial High School student on March 2, following an investigation into threats made on social media related to school shootings.

A memo was posted March 3 on the Manchester School District website from School Superintendent Dr. Bolgen Vargas:

I am writing because a Memorial High School student was arrested yesterday for making threats via social media related to school shootings. The Manchester School District and the Manchester Police Department were made aware of those potential threats and the Manchester Police Department took immediate action.

According to the information we received about the investigation, there was no imminent threat to any of our students at Memorial or in the district. We are working closely with the Manchester Police Department to ensure the safety of our students.

As a community, we need to be vigilant and work together to keep our students safe. We urge you to talk with your children to encourage them to share anything they hear or see that causes concern regarding their safety or that of others.

Police have not released any information regarding the arrest, or the nature of the threat.
