CONCORD, NH – The human remains recovered at a Conway pumping station was an unviable fetus that was the result of a “spontaneous natural miscarriage.”

On February 5, 2019, Conway police were notified of the discovery of human remains at a pumping station in Conway, which is owned and operated by the Conway Village Fire District.  It appears most likely that the remains arrived at the pumping station through the sewer system.

On February 8, 2019, Associate Medical Examiner Dr. Christine James of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on the remains.  She classified the remains as a fetus.  Dr. James determined that the fetus had not taken a breath, was not viable, and that the pregnancy loss was the result of a spontaneous natural miscarriage.

The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are still attempting to locate the mother to ensure her health and welfare.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Conway Police Department at (603) 356-5715.
