Martin Street beauty salon gutted by basement fire
A firefighter narrowly escaped injury after slipping into a hole caused by a basement fire at CP Nails Sunday.
MANCHESTER, NH – A fire Sunday in the basement of a beauty salon at 47 Martin St. caused extensive damage, fire officials said.
The fire at CP Nails was reported at about 3:30 p.m. Crews arrived t0 find a fire in the basement that had been burning undetected for quite some time, according to fire officials.
Two hose lines were brought in to extinguish the fire. Simultaneously, fire crews entered the ground level floor to search for occupants. As the search was taking place one firefighter narrowly escaped serious injury as he partially slipped into a hole that was burned through the floor from the fire below.
It took approximately 25 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.
Damage is estimated at about $70,000. The cause remains under investigation.
