Manchester high school sports recap (4/14-4/24)

Now more than a week into their spring campaigns, some student athletes from the Queen City have found collective success, while others are still learning on the go. Here’s a look at how Manchester teams have fared so far:

MANCHESTER, NH – Now more than a week into their spring campaigns, some student athletes from the Queen City have found collective success, while others are still learning on the go. Here’s a look at how Manchester teams have fared so far:

Derryfield School:

Derryfield School is off to a 3-0 start this season after three consecutive home victories.

The Cougars kicked the season off with a 17-1 triumph over Belmont on Monday, April 14, followed up with a 15-7 win against Hopkinton three days later, and then thumped Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough, 15-2, on Monday, April 21.

In their opener, freshman Finley Llewellyn and sophomore Maddy Paolino led the way with four goals each, while senior captains Chloe Bremberg and Bri Murray and classmate Alex Benson each contributed two goals and sophomores Kelsi Bremberg and Gia Valinoti and freshman Charlotte Belanger each scored once. Bremberg and Benson each eclipsed 100 career points with their scoring contributions.

In goal, senior captain Lily Kfoury recorded 1 save and sophomore goalie Sadie Walsh recorded 2.

Against Hopkinton, Paolino, Belanger, Murray and Teagan Peabody dominated the draw, while Benson found the back of the net five times, and Bremberg and Llewellyn each scored four goals apiece. Paolino added two goals.

Kfoury recorded 11 saves in the first half and Walsh recorded nine in the second.

The Cougars now look to maintain their early-season success on the road with contests at Pelham, Nashua South and St. Thomas Aquinas on April 25, 29 and May 1.
