Man struck, seriously injured, after walking into traffic on 293 North

Preliminary investigation shows that for a reason not yet known to authorities, the man ran into the roadway and was struck by a pick-up truck pulling a commercial trailer. The operator of the pick-up Mark Furrow, 46, ofNew Britain, CT, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

MANCHESTER, NH – On March 14th, 2019 at approximately 4:15 p.m., the New Hampshire State Police Troop B received a report of a male subject in a red sedan pulled over on 293 North, just south of exit 6.  As Troopers responded to the area, State Police received an additional call on the male subject, stating that he ran onto the roadway and was struck by a tractor-trailer unit.

Manchester Fire and EMS responded to the scene to render aid to the victim who was now laying in the middle of the roadway.   State Police shut down all lanes of travel, and diverted traffic off Exit 5 while the victim was attended to by first responders.  He was transported to Catholic Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers from Troop G arrived on scene to conduct an inspection on his commercial vehicle.

The roadway remained shut down for approximately one hour while Troopers documented the scene.

Circumstances surrounding this event are still under investigation as it is still unclear at this time why the male subject ran on to the travel portion of the roadway.
