DERRY, NH – (Updated at 1:45 p.m.on Feb. 23) On February 21, 2025, at 9:19 p.m. the Derry Police initiated a motor vehicle stop on Scobie Pond Road for a traffic violation. The vehicle sped away from the officer as he approached the car.

The driver, later identified as Levi Coltey, 26, 127 Maynard Ave., Manchester, led officers on a brief pursuit during which he is alleged to have used the vehicle to run cruisers off the road and threaten the safety of officers and the public. Mr. Coltey was eventually stopped on Route 28 Bypass and he was taken into custody.
He is charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon (Class B Felony), 3 counts disobeying a police officer and 1 charge of resisting arrest – all misdemeanors.
Coltey was taken to Elliott Hospital by Derry Fire Department ambulance where he was treated for injuries and released. Coltey was given conditional bail and will appear on a date to be determined by the 10th Circuit Court – Derry District.
A previous press release issued by the state Attorney General’s office said that when Coltey refused to bring his car to a stop a single officer used deadly force and fired on the vehicle, striking Cotley.
The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit into the officer-involved shooting of Coltey is ongoing, and the identity of the officer using deadly-force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place. This is expected to occur sometime next week. Further information will be provided at that time.
Coltey is known to Manchester police for this 2019 incident.
