HOOKSETT, NH – An early-morning closure on Hackett Hill Road was due to a tree that came down, taking wires with it, because of gusty winds, according to Hooksett Police – adding to the growing list of Eversource customers experiencing outages due to the weather.

“We’re experiencing gusty winds across the state, which are bringing down trees and tree limbs that are damaging the electric system and causing scattered power outages in communities throughout New Hampshire – including Nashua, Hollis, Brookline and other surrounding towns,” said Eversource spokesman William Hinkle at about noon time.

The toppled tree that pulled down wires closed down traffic on Hackett Hill Road at Corriveau Drive for about two hours with 170 Hooksett Eversource customers reportedly without power.

Eversource reported as of 12:45 p.m. there were 6,953 customers without power – up from 3,783 earlier in the day, with largest pockets of outages reported in Merrimack (547), Goffstown (573), Auburn (498), Bedford (417) and Claremont (302).

“As with any hazardous weather in our area, we continue to closely monitor several forecasts and our crews are ready to respond to any power outages or damage to the electric system. Crews are actively working to repair damage and restore power to impacted customers as quickly as safely possible and will continue to do so as the hazardous winds persist,” Hinkle said.

With strong winds expected to continue across New Hampshire through Friday, customers are reminded to report any outage online at www.eversource.com, or by calling 1-800-662-7764, and if they see a downed wire to stay away from it, and make sure to keep pets away as well, and report it immediately to 9-1-1.

Customers who signed up for the company’s two-way texting feature can also send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
