Granite Leaders Program seeks homeless or formerly homeless participants

MANCHESTER, NH – The NH Coalition to End Homelessness (NHCEH) is launching the third session of its Granite Leaders Program, a leadership training program designed for people who are currently or formerly homeless. The program focuses on building advocacy skills and fostering greater community engagement to strengthen efforts to end homelessness in the state.  The new session will start in November 2017.

Through a free-to-attend, six-month educational and experiential program, participants of Granite Leaders learn specific skills and interact with widely recognized leaders on the local, statewide and national levels.  Upon completion of the program, graduates become part of a network of skilled leaders focused on improving the quality of life in communities across New Hampshire.

“Our program gives those who want to make positive change in their communities the tools that they need to have the greatest impact,” said Cathy Kuhn, PhD, Director of the NH Coalition to End Homelessness. “Alumni from the Granite Leaders Program have gone on to sit on boards and committees, testify at legislative hearings, engage with the media and advocate at the national level.  They play a key role in helping to end homelessness in our state.”

Granite Leaders is currently accepting applications and will admit up to 15 candidates. Participants can apply online by visiting www.nhceh.org/GraniteLeaders.  The application deadline is October 19, 2017.

Although the class is free for participants, there is a cost to organize, hire speakers, purchase supplies and food, and secure space. The NHCEH is looking for businesses and individuals to join Bank of NH, a current supporter, to help underwrite the cost of the program. Sponsorships are available and be viewed at www.nhceh.org/GraniteLeaders/Sponsor.

The NH Coalition to End Homelessness is a nonprofit organization with the purpose of eliminating the causes of homelessness through research, education, and advocacy.  For more information about the NHCEH and Granite Leaders Program, visit www.nhceh.org or call 603-641-9441 ext. 251.
