Fish & Game investigate discovery of moose poached for antlers

On December 6, 2015, Conservation Officers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department responded to an anonymous tip regarding a dead moose that had been found approximately three-quarters of a mile from the end of Smokey Camp Brook Road in Errol.

CONCORD, NH – On December 6, 2015, Conservation Officers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department responded to an anonymous tip regarding a dead moose that had been found approximately three-quarters of a mile from the end of Smokey Camp Brook Road in Errol.

Upon investigation of the scene Conservation Officers determined that a mature bull moose had been shot.  No meat had been taken from the animal, but both its antlers were missing. Conservation Officers were able to locate some physical evidence, which they are hoping to utilize as the investigation progresses.

Authorities believe that this poaching incident may have taken place on or around Friday December 4, 2015. Those with any information regarding this incident are being asked to report either directly or anonymously to the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-800-344-4262 or www.wildnh.com/ogt.  Callers also may contact the New Hampshire Fish and Game Regional Office in Lancaster at 603-788-3164. Any information, whether broad or specific in nature, could be helpful to Conservation Officers involved in this investigation.
