Early touchdown doesn’t help Saint Anselm

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Saint Anselm had high hopes of breaking their early losing streak after an early score, but Pace put to hopes to rest, giving the Hawks a 42-21 thumping on Saturday.

Saint Anselm jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to a two-yard run by senior back Nick Fiorillo (Westford, Mass). However, the Setters answered with the game’s next five touchdowns.

Senior quarterback Eric Fairweather once again took the reigns of the offense, ending with a 13-yard touchdown pass Charles Elliot (Memphis, Tenn) and a rushing touchdown late in the fourth.

Fairweather ended the day with 196 passing yards, becoming the fifth quarterback in program history to eclipse 4,000 career yards (4,132) in a career. However, his accuracy left something to be desired, finishing the day 21-for-45 through the air with four interceptions.

Between Fairweather and junior Phillip Tran (San Jose, Calif.), the Hawks have now thrown 11 interceptions on the season.

Next Saturday, Saint Anselm (0-4) heads to Ohio to face the Dragons of Tiffin University for a 1 p.m. outing.
