BEDFORD, NH – NH State Police have identified the driver who perished Wednesday in a fiery crash at the Bedford Tolls as Caleb Scofield, 39, of Bow.
Police say Scofield may have been traveling too fast to negotiate a last-minute lane change as he entered the toll area, causing him to crash into the barrier.
Staff Sgt. Bryan Trask said the accident remains under investigation. Damage to Scofield’s vehicle, believed to be a truck, was so extensive it was not immediately identifiable. An autopsy was scheduled for March 29, 2018 at 9 a.m.
The crash resulted in damage to the concrete barrier of the toll plaza and part of the frame that supports the toll plaza roof.

According to a YouCaring page set up in the aftermath of the tragic accident, Caleb Scofield was a husband and father of two young kids, and also a well-known accomplished local musician. An outpouring of support from the Bow school community, friends, family and fellow musicians, has resulted in more than $32,000 raised in the hours after word of the accident began circulating.
