MANCHESTER, NH – Six people  were displaced due to a fire at 310 Amherst St. Saturday that was quickly extinguished, preventing further damage to the four-unit apartment building.

Fire crews were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. to the residence, where smoke was showing from the third-floor of a three-story building. Two hose lines were stretched to the third-floor and the fire was quickly extinguished. The third-floor apartment sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

The second floor sustained water damage. One dog was rescued from the third-floor and reunited with its owner.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Manchester Fire Prevention Bureau. Six people were displaced from the second-and  third-floor units.

Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000. Early detection and notification along with the quick work of fire personnel were key to confining the fire to the apartment of origin, according to District Chief Hank Martineau.
