MANCHESTER, N.H. – At Monday night’s Board of School Committee Meeting, Manchester School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Chmiel responded to reports last week that a Hillside Middle School student had to sit on the floor of a school bus because there were not enough seats.
Reported on Friday by WMUR, the issue was brought forward by Manchester Board of School Committee Vice Chair Jim O’Connell, running the evening’s meeting in the absence of Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais.
Chmiel said that the incident was a one-off aberration and initiated a review of school bus rosters at the school. She added that the district will review seating expectations with students and drivers using district buses, particularly regarding the prohibition of students saving seats for each other.
Chmiel also asked families to communicate with school administrators as soon as possible following reports of inappropriate behavior on school buses. Contact information for Manchester School District school administrators is available at mansd.org
