MANCHESTER, NH – As 2024 approaches its end, members of the CHAOS 131 Manchester Central High School Robotics Team look back at one of their most successful years in its history.
Competing in US First, the pre-eminent global STEM competition for children aged 4 to 18, the CHAOS 131 team earned a second place finish at the New England Championships, earning their first trip to the FIRST World Championships since 2017 and their fifth trip overall since the team’s establishment in 1992. At the World Championships, held this year in Houston, their led their group of teams to a second-place finish in their division, falling to a team that would eventually win the overall title. Although they could not win the world championship, CHAOS 131 was ranked among the top 1 percent of teams in the world by the end of the World Championships competition.
“It was really an incredible season and shows a lot of the things about the students in Manchester,” said CHAOS 131 Coach Matthew Bisson.
Participating in this year’s specific robotics game, titled “Crescendo”, the team took several weeks at the beginning of 2024 to prepare for the contest, with preliminary competitions before the New England Championships, which took place this year in Springfield, Mass.
Between the trips and to Springfield and Houston as well as other events throughout the year, the team also had to fundraise thousands of dollars, which it accomplished through the help of several sponsors, grant funding and support from the Manchester School District.
In addition to the competitions, the team does engage in activities year-round with students still learning about robotics able to participate in tasks on the team as they develop skills.
