Brockton murder case: Manchester couple charged for ‘misleading’ investigators

MANCHESTER, NH — A Manchester couple has become entangled in the investigation of a gruesome murder of a New Jersey woman found burned and bound next to railroad tracks in Brockton, Mass., earlier this month.

Julian Squires and his wife Shannon Squires, 39, of Manchester, are charged with misleading police, according to the Boston Globe.

They were arraigned Monday in Brockton, Mass., District Court on one count each of misleading a police investigation in the slaying of Ashley Bortner, 29, of New Jersey.

Not-guilty pleas were entered on their behalf. Bail was set at $100,000 for Julian Squires and $20,000 for Shannon Squires.

On Nov. 3. Bortner was found dead, her hands and feet tied behind her back. Police told the Globe in a previous interview that they believe Bortner was killed somewhere else and then dumped near railroad tracks, and her body set on fire.

Bortner’s murder remains unsolved and no suspect has been named.
