MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester School District’s Bookmobile is loaded with books ready to share with children across the city. The five-week schedule will run two sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from July 8 to August 9. Regular stops include Livingston Park, Sheridan Emmett Park across from Beech Street School, City Hall Plaza, Piscataquog River Park, Elmwood Gardens, and Lake Massabesic.

The Bookmobile will be staffed by MSD educators, city librarians, and other community leaders and volunteers. The team will organize read-a-louds and activities for each session. Any child who attends a session with the Bookmobile will be given a book to take home and keep. All Manchester children are welcome to attend any scheduled stop.

The van was generously donated in 2018 by Granite State Plumbing & Heating and wrapped with graphics by Sousa Signs. This is the Bookmobile’s second season promoting literacy in a collaborative effort to encourage learning and help prevent so-called “summer slide,” when students’ reading skills might decline during the months school isn’t in session. Last summer, more than 1,400 youth were served over the five-
week period, across all grade levels and ages from toddlers to high school students.

The Bookmobile’s first day of operation also is the start of Summer Learning Week. Manchester is joining thousands of communities across the country in this national initiative to promote awareness of the importance of keeping kids engaged during the summer. To mark the kick-off of Summer Learning Week, the Bookmobile will join community leaders, including Mayor Joyce Craig, at Derryfield Park on Monday, July 8 at 6:00 pm. The event will feature ice cream provided by Ben & Jerry’s.

More information about Summer Learning Week and the full Bookmobile schedule of dates, times and locations are available online at bookedforsummer.mansd.org.
