Power outage due to equipment failure snarls traffic on Queen City Avenue

MANCHESTER, NH – More than 5,000 Eversource customers were effected by an outage Tuesday morning caused by failed equipment on Willow Street in the area of Queen City Ave.

More than 4,000 customers were quickly restored through automation  –  system operators remotely rerouting power from another source – in less than five minutes, according to Eversource. Two crews and two supervisors were assigned to the situation to make repairs.

As of 11:50 a.m. fewer than 300 customers remained without power. All power was expected to be restored before noon.

Earlier in the day Manchester Police cautioned motorists to expect traffic delays on Queen City Ave and Elm Street, which was closed down at about 10 a.m. due to the failed insulators, which included wires down on the roadway.

Due to the power outage, afternoon preschool at Bishop O’Neil Center is canceled. The outage does not affect other schools, according to Manchester School District.
