NASHUA, NH — The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office is responding to a report of an officer-involved shooting in Nashua that occurred on January 21, 2024 at a Marie Avenue residence. At about 11:47 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 call was placed reporting in substance that there was a domestic disturbance at the residence of 49 Marie Avenue in Nashua, and that an adult male had a firearm. Officers with the Nashua Police Department responded to the residence, and outside the home encountered the subject of the 911 call, armed with a handgun. At one point during that armed confrontation, one police officer discharged a less-than-lethal projectile, and three other police officers fired bullets at the adult male. The man went into the residence, where he was later found by the police to be non-responsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, the man died at the scene. No other private citizens, and no law enforcement officers, were physically injured during the incident under investigation, and there is no threat to the public. The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing. The identity of the deceased adult man, as well as the cause and matter of his death, will be disclosed upon conclusion of his autopsy, which is scheduled for Monday and notification of those results to his next of kin. Pursuant to protocol, the identity of the four police officers who fired at the adult male will not be disclosed until formal interviews have occurred. New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit is at the scene, and investigators are beginning to process evidence in the street and a house near where the body is. A drone being flown by law enforcement can be seen flying above the scene, taking aerial photos. CONCORD, NH – Autopsy results in Saturday’s fatal shooting of Heath Thompson, 40, by a Nashua police officer were released Monday.
Chief Medical Examiner Jennie V. Duvall conducted the autopsy and concluded the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, and the manner of death was homicide. As used by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting of Mr. Thompson is ongoing, and the identity of the officers who used deadly force will not be disclosed until formal interviews of all those involved are completed. Further information will be provided at that time.
