Andrews pushes Penmen to overtime win

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University senior Daquaise Andrews became Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week once this month and on Wednesday, he made a case for the award this week as well.

Andrews’ 24 points led the way as SNHU earned an 88-85 overtime victory against Saint Rose, raising the Penmen to 10-6 on the year.

Andrews (Queens, N.Y.) was just 2-for-6 from the field during the first half, but junior Eamonn Joyce (Medford, Mass.) picked up the slack for SNHU with 13 opening half points, allowing the Penmen to escape with just a three-point disadvantage heading into the half.

After Saint Rose hit a three to start the second half, SNHU took a 12-6 run, with eight from Andrews and four from Joyce, earning the Penmen the first of several knotted scores throughout the second half.

Andrews’ free throw with 15 seconds left in regulation provided the final tie before overtime, and SNHU took that momentum into the extra frame, fueled by a 14-6 rally.

After the win, Andrews is averaging 22.1 points per game, just eight tenths of a point behind Bentley’s Ryan Richmond.

The Penmen return to action Saturday, Jan. 26 (3:30 p.m.) when they take on American International College.
