Alleged Manchester bank robber arrested in Newport in stolen car
Man picked up by Newport police is alleged bank robber wanted by Manchester Police.
NEWPORT — On November 30, 2014, at approximately 3 p.m., New Hampshire State Police Trooper Jason Yarosz stopped a 1998 Honda Civic on Route 11/103 in Newport for several motor vehicle violations.
A passenger in the vehicle was identified as James D. Whinnem, 34, of Somersworth, who was wanted by Manchester Police in connection with a Nov. 18 TD Bank robbery.
During the course of the stop Trooper Yarosz determined that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Milton, NH. The driver, Joshua P. Dematos, 32, Farmington, NH, was found to be wanted by the Farmington Police on several warrants. A felony warrant for receiving stolen property, both a felony and a misdemeanor warrant for possession of a controlled drug and a misdemeanor warrant for possession of burglary tools. Dematos was charged with receiving stolen property, a felony, as well as driving under suspension, a misdemeanor, by the NH State Police.
Whinnem was found to also be wanted by Dover Police on felony robbery charges in Dover.
Another passenger in the car was identified as Christina Robinson, 36, of Farmington, NH, who was wanted by Farmington Police on felony warrants for possession of a controlled drug, and conspiracy to commit the crime of receiving stolen property, as well as a misdemeanor warrant for possession of a controlled drug.
The Newport Police Department assisted Trooper Yarosz in arresting the suspects without incident. The case remains under investigation and further charges are possible. All three were held in custody at the Sullivan County House of Correction pending arraignment.
