MANCHESTER, NH — If you’re looking for a way to get involved in city government in 2019 there are a number of board and commission vacancies, both regular and alternate member positions, currently open.

  • Board of Adjustment (Zoning Board)
    The Zoning Board of Adjustment serves as an intermediate step when a property owner would otherwise seek a zoning amendment from the legislative body or take court action when they feel the ordinance is invalid.
    Typically meets once a month on the 2nd Thursday of the month

    Alternate Member, Term expires 3/1/20
  • Board of Health
    The Board of Health consults, advises and makes policy recommendations to the Health Department and the Public Health Director.
    Current vacancies:
    Regular Member, Dentist Rep, Term expires 7/1/21
  • Building Board of Appeals
    The Building Board of Appeals hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the Planning Department relative to the building code.
    No regular meetings, meets as needed
    Current vacancies:
    Regular Member, Electrical Engineering Rep, Term expires 1/1/21
    Regular Member, Fire Protection Engineering Rep, Term expires 1/1/21
    Alternate Member, Structural Engineering Rep, Term expires 1/1/21
  • Conduct Board
    The Conduct Board issues advisory opinions to the board of mayor and aldermen or school committee concerning the actions of city officials, interprets standards of conduct in the City Charter, investigates violations of the standards of conduct, issues reports after such investigations to the board of mayor and aldermen, and recommends ordinances to carry out the purposes of the standards of conduct.
    No regular meetings, only meets when requested

  • Office of Youth Services Advisory BoardThe Office of Youth Services Advisory Board consults, advises and makes policy recommendations to the Office of Youth Services Department. Meets quarterly. More information on the Office of Youth Services Advisory Board can be found HERE

    Regular Member, Term expires 1/1/21
  • Personnel Appeals Board
    The Personnel Appeals Board hears appeals on dismissals, demotions, or suspensions from permanent city employees who are not affiliated with a union or who do not have appeal rights under collective bargaining agreements. No member shall be a member of any partisan political committee, nor shall they hold, or be a candidate for, any elective public office during their term or be employed in any department of City government. No regular meetings, only meet when an appeal is filed
