2 in custody after Windham crash, following shots fired and police chase from Haverhill, Mass.
Shots were fired at Haverhill, Mass., police officers, which led to a police chase into New Hampshire, police said.
WINDHAM, NH – A police chase that began in Haverhill, Mass. Tuesday night – prompted by shots fired at Massachusetts police – resulted in a car crash on I-93 in Windham and a warning to residents that two men were on the loose. The incident resolved early Wednesday, after two men were finally in custody.
According to the Boston Globe, the two men – Javonnie Chambers, 21, of Berlin, and Manuel Antonio Soto, 20, of Haverhill, Mass., – were both arrested. Chambers was taken into custody at about 12:20 a.m. by NH State Police, who picked him up as he walked along I-93. Soto was arrested and charged with reckless conduct after crashing the car in Windham.
Prior to the arrests, Windham Police issued an advisory to residents to lock their doors following the crash, as the men were initially at large.
The Globe reports that the incident originated in Haverhill, Mass., at around 9:30 p.m. when police pursued the two from 495 in Massachusetts onto I-93 north into New Hampshire. The car crashed on Route 111 in Windham.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the chase began in Haverhill after one of the two men shot at police from inside the vehicle. A gun was found inside the car, police said.
