BEDFORD, NH — State Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed a fiery crash at the Bedford Tolls early Wednesday afternoon, that resulted in the death of the motorist.

A vehicle crashed into the toll booth at an E-Z Pass lane and burst into flames, according to NH State Police Staff Sgt. Bryan Trask. The make and model of the vehicle was not immediately available as it was so severely burned. The driver, who was the sole occupant, perished in the blaze.

The crash forced police to shut down northbound lanes of the Everett Turnpike at the Bedford tolls, which reopened at around 3 p.m.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Trask called this manner of accident “unusual,” in that road conditions were good and weather was not a factor.

“With 100,000 cars a day through the tolls, it’s rare that it happens, but when it does, it’s devastating,” Trask said.

State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and the identity of the deceased.
